Starbucks and Writing

I think we are out of topics for the year so I am going to talk about writing and working at Starbucks, and why I think it’s the perfect part time job.

First and foremost, I get to feed my caffeine addiction free of charge J  After ten years,  if you retire, you still get a free pound of coffee a week.  It’s better than crack – and it’s legal.

Second : it’s busy, so I get my cardio in.  We all know writing requires a lot of sitting, which causes ass spread if left unattended

Third : I meet people.  Not all of them are nice, some are down right douche bags, but I’ve met some really great people too.  A few have become good friends!

Fourth on the list: Things are never the same, despite the routine.  Which keeps my ADD side happy.  Squirrel??

Fifth: Being with people forces me to be in the moment instead of safe behind my keyboard.   I am part of my community.

Sixth: My job description states I am to make the customer happy, so no matter what, the customer gets to be right.  Starbucks has nailed customer service with this – as a barista, I can remake your drink as many times as it takes until you are happy.   I can offer you a free drink if you’ve been forgotten in line, or give you a certificate if you have been mistreated in any way. My job is to make the customer happy.  Which in turn makes me happy, lol

Seventh: I am able to provide very affordable health insurance for my family, working only part time

Eighth: Starbucks is very flexible with my travel schedule – accommodating as well as supportive

Ninth reason would be the 401 K and stock options

And reason number ten is: who doesn’t like a little extra jingle in their pocket?

Just thought of another reason too – an important one.  I have NO control over the publishing industry.  I work hard and write the best books I can, and then what?  I wait.  I have a very active imagination and I can come up with all kinds of misery as to why my stuff isn’t selling or moving faster – whatever.  I can write.  And I can work at Starbucks and accomplish all of the above and have some sort of control over a tiny bit of my life, keeping me out of a straight jacket  in a nice white padded room <g>

The buckle is stuffed into a tiny pocket that you can only get two fingers into if you use a Star Trek wormhole, Solution: real north face jackets clearance good material cut the pocket material around the buckle away and you good to go,On a much more important note, the Mission 50 has a beautifully designed suspension, a lot of which (frame, framesheet, top pocket and hip belt) can be removed to strip it from 3lb 10oz to 2lb 5oz, a respectable difference. Girl, Jupiter's Starbucks rocks because of you. I have been in NEW ORLEANS with you when one of your customers came up to tell you how glad they were to see you! Indeed, you make your customers happy!! (What do you add with that coffee?? LOL!) As for squirrel . . . with your A.D.D. (compared to mine, that is . . .), I'd say, "BEAR!!" xoxox
