I can't top Mary's wonderful story. I didn't see the ape girl... at least I don't remember seeing her...
I have, however, accidentally been in Key West at sundown at the end of Fantasy Week (last week in October). A group of friends and I traveled down for the day because we'd never been to Key West before. We were staying in Islamorada. We didn't know it was Fantasy Week (or Fest) which is loosely defined as a street party in Key West which features balls, costumes, AIDS fundraisers, lots of drinking, body painting, drag queen contests and pet and people parades. Over 100K people attend.
Upon arriving in Key West, my first sight was of a group of people shaking beads from a balcony. Down below, a middle-aged man dropped his shorts and received the beads. Okay, so I would have given him beads to keep his shorts ON, but ...
The most strange and amazing sight was waiting for me. Mallory Square is where many people gather to watch the sun set. We watched the sun ease its way down to the horizon. I probably should have kept on my sunglasses because I had that sensation you get after a camera flashes in your eyes.
Just as the sun went down, a huge yacht sailed in front of us with at least twenty or thirty people, male and female, buck naked, waving and yelling in chorus "Happy Halloween!" No lie. I must have blinked my eyes a dozen times to see if I was really seeing what I was seeing... and I was.
So that's my strange story. More funny than strange. I've been spending the last three weeks in Myrtle Beach where they celebrate two different bike fests during the month of May. The first features the Harley Riders. Here's a big, bad Harley rider with my very own biker babe pom -- Bijou. Enjoy.
